The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads. The Port Commerce Department is currently looking for a Maritime Cargo Sales Manager. This position is located in New York, NY.

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing relationships and day-to-day issues with the shipping industry as it relates to beneficial cargo owner (BCO), NVO and forwarder and broker use of Port Authority-owned facilities. This includes managing the development and maintenance of contacts with BCOs in the container shipping business; development and execution of marketing programs and business initiatives to promote business in the Port of NY & NJ to the container shipping industry; and the reporting and analysis of major market trends in the international logistics industry. This position requires a significant amount of travel inside and outside of the Port District.

*Provide timely information to department management on beneficial cargo owner routing decisions, development of distribution facilities and other pertinent information.
*Prepare quarterly reports on salient issues that may affect the Ports competitive position or level of customer service regarding major BCOs, NVOs and forwarders and brokers.
*Maintain relationships with the maritime industry throughout the region and provide departmental staff with information obtained pertaining to the industrys operational and/or service needs and concerns.
*Establish a presence at industry functions of port users and service providers.
*Meet with current and prospective customers to ensure the Ports facilities and service providers meet their needs.
*Identify improvements to port facilities and services that could lead to new business opportunities for the Port Authority and its tenants, additional Port of NY & NJ cargo growth, and increased revenue to the Port Authority;
*Synthesize information garnered from industry contacts and experience into actionable items by the Department to improve the Ports competitive position and level of customer service.

*Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in International Business, Marine Transportation, Marine Operations, Logistics, Intermodal Transportation, or other related field
*A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in port operations and/or port marketing/sales activities
*A Valid Drivers License


The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications profile:
*Demonstrated understanding of the competitive position of the Port of NY & NJ versus other North American ports;*Demonstrated understanding of ocean carrier-related and BCO advantages and disadvantages associated with ports that compete with Port of NY & NJ facilities for containerized cargo;
*Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the international logistics system from factory door to store shelf, including major companies involved in each link in the logistics chain;
*Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing business with major BCOs;
*Demonstrated knowledge of and contacts with personnel at all levels in major BCO organizations in the United States and abroad;
*Demonstrated leadership and management skills;
*Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
*Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
